Job Description:

About the PositionReporting to the Vice President of Finance & Administration, the Director of Marketing & Communications will be responsible for strategy, planning, budgeting, and implementation of overall communications efforts for Alice L. Walton School of Medicine (AWSOM). This role works closely with Communications leadership at Heartland Whole Health Institute and Art and Wellness Enterprises, the organization supporting Alice L. Walton's philanthropic enterprises.

Major Responsibilities/Essential Functions Specific to the Position:

*Strategize, plan and implement earned, owned and paid media.

*Create and track annual budget.

*Manage a team in marketing and communications as well as agency partners and freelancers.

*Oversee direct message platforms and communication channel strategies for internal, external, and online audiences to include website, social media, newsletters, podcasts, intranet, videos, and more.

*Implement PR plans that increase awareness with local, regional, and national media, identifying SME and training spokespeople for press and speaker ops, as well as serving as spokesperson and media relations liaison.

*Manage reputation, sensitive issues, and crisis communications.

*Evaluate and report on the reach and impact of communications efforts through ongoing quarterly and monthly reports.

*Work closely with leadership on the School's positioning alongside communications teams of organizations founded by Alice L. Walton.

*Oversee and manage the institutional aesthetic vision and graphic identity, and oversee the production of all collateral materials, digital properties, advertising, promotional programs, institutional signage, brochures, presentations, course materials, and reports.

*Build a speaker engagement calendar for executive teams and communications toolkits including presentations, talking points, and other printed or promotional materials.

*Manage, monitor, and assess internal and external institutional messaging and allocate appropriate resources to ensure audiences understand and have access to available channels of communication.

*Ensure that brand identity, messaging, marketing, and communications strategy are infused in all organizational efforts (programming, development, network support).

*Develop, implement, and evaluate content strategy and marketing campaigns related to programs, special events, recruiting, and donor cultivation.

*Identify trends, monitor current events and influencers to anticipate opportunities to engage in and/or lead the national conversation on medical education.

Minimum Required Qualifications

*Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing or a similar field

*Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate in a clear and persuasive manner

*Superb writing and editing skills

*Ability to understand and maintain the highest levels of confidentiality

*Highest ethics as they relate to all aspects of private non-profit practices

*Exemplary written, verbal, and listening communication skills and a demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and professionally

*Effective interpersonal skills as well as group interaction and leadership

*Ability to inspire and creatively engage internal and external audiences

*Ability to work independently and effectively; self-directed

*Collaborative and energetic

*Ability to create and successfully manage an annual budget

*Supervisory experience.

*Demonstrated organizational planning, problem-solving and collaboration skills

*A high level of professional integrity and the ability to handle sensitive issues

Desired Qualifications

*Master's degree in communications or related field.

*Prior experience with the health care related field.

*Prior experience applying for first time institutional Title IV FSA programs.

*Prior experience participating in institutional or programmatic accreditation.

*Demonstrated leadership with results orientation.

About Us!

Founded in 2021 by philanthropist Alice Walton, the School of Medicine will offer a medical degree-granting program that builds on conventional medicine with an inclusive, compassionate, and whole health approach. The School of Medicine embraces self-care to empower students to care for their patients and themselves and helps them rise to the health challenges of the 21st century with a focus on mental, physical, social, and emotional health. The School will have an attached clinic for training in these concepts. Currently, the School of Medicine seeks to be a national medical school with the goal of welcoming its inaugural class in 2025, pending programmatic and institutional accreditation.

Construction of the 154,000 square-foot building has begun with the goal of completing and welcoming the first class in Fall 2025, pending accreditation. AWSOM will be located east of Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas.
